Statue Figures

Hindu Statue Figures are carved of stone or are made by casting metal. The traditional Statue Figures in Hinduism are meant to be sensual. Right from the very inception of Indian artistry, Indian Statue Figures are mostly delicate and sensual figures that are exquisitely carved out. The common types of Hindu Statue Figures include figures of Hindu gods and goddesses like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh, Krishna, etc. Other sculpture items included erotic statues of voluptuous amorous couples, etc. The Statue Figures are collected from different nooks and corners of India. The various types of common Statue Figures found in India are:

  • Ardhanari Bronze Half Shiva Half Parvati Statue: This 18” bronze statue is created in the lost wax method by South Indian artists. The statue weighs 14 pounds. Ardhanarishwar or ardhanari is the name of the statue that shows the synthesis of Shiva and his wife, Parvati, into a single form representing the physical characteristics of both the bodies. The body of Lord Shiva is depicted on the right half of the statue, and the body of Parvati is shown on the left half of it. This statue is based on the narrative that Shiva has given his body to his wife for absorbing her within him.

  • Bronze Statue of Lakshmi: This big bronze statue of Goddess Lakshmi measures for a height of 54”. The impressive, life size statue shows the goddess with her 4 hands; two holding one lotus flower in each. The other two hands are in the abhaya mudra or “blessing pose” towards her devotees, blessing them.

  • Dancing Ganesha: This bronze statue of Lord Ganesha measures 13 X 6 X 5. Here Ganesha is depicted in a dancing pose - dancing a dance in utmost celestial bliss. He is lightly balanced on his left leg, lifting the right leg in a dancing pose by bending the knee. His hands are spread in dancing postures, one holding a conch another a rope, thus, signifying humanly ties towards worldly attachments. His trunk is seen trying to pick up his favorite sweet, a modak, hold by his lower hand.

  • Bronze Nataraja: This bronze statue is available in different sizes and shapes and is usually made in the South Indian lost wax method. In this statue Lord Shiva or Nataraja is seen in his fearful dancing posture which portrays the origin of all types of movement within the universe. This is represented by the arch of burning flames all around him.

  • Parvati in a Dancing Pose: This bronze statue of Parvati depicts her in a slender form, positioned in a dancing posture. She is dressed in the attire of danseuse with a headdress and jewelries.
