Sculpture

Sculpture is a three-dimensional form of art. Those from the Indus Valley Civilization and Mohen-jo-daro were the first sculptures. These were stone and bronze carvings, which looked amazing. These South Asian sculptures are still remembered today for their beauty and skilled craftsmanship.

It is made of solid material. A sculpture reveals much more than any other forms of art. These are built in different ways. These can be built by molding, carving and also by welding. Materials like plastic, stone, wood and mud are used in making sculpture.

Materials used in making sculptures can be modulated or molded. For this reason the art of sculpture is regarded as one of the plastic arts. Sculptures include many types of statues. The free-standing statues are also known as the round statues. It is so because these statues can be viewed from any side. Relief sculpture is one of the most attractive kind of sculpture. These sculptures can be viewed with its background. Different types of relief sculpture are alto-relievo, sunken-relief and bas-relief.

Equestrian sculptures are very common type of sculptures. These are horse mounted sculptures showing generally the figures of the kings, heroes and the generals. Bust is one of the very common type of sculptural work. These sculptures depict a person from his chest to head. You can find a large number of bust sculptures in different museums and art museums.

Sculpture is a work of art which gives the artist his liberty. An artist can make a kinetic sculpture which shows the physical motion of a man or an animal. A statue which will be kept by the side of a river will be different from a statue which is to be kept at the corner of a road.

Other than traditional forms of sculptures, you will also get ice sculptures and sand sculptures. Ice sculptures are built in the cold countries where the snow fall is very common. Sand sculptures are made by the side of sea. Festivals of sand sculpture are organized in many parts of the world. In these festivals sand sculptors build their work of art.
