Kanehri sculptures

A study into the Indian architecture definitely includes a detailed study on Kanheri Sculptures, one of the most significant aspects of south Indian architecture.

The Kanehri caves have a religious atmosphere and are set against the vast green fields. The place which was once believed to be an important trade route of India became one of the famous seats of the Buddhist culture. The caves consist of some rare piece of Kanehri sculptures.

You can watch the Kanehri sculptures as soon as you enter the neighborhood of the caves. A beautiful statue is present right at the top of the caves. The figurines of Goddess Tara along with Goddess Bhrukti will definitely catch your attention. Besides the statue of Avalokiteshwara deserve a special praise.

The Kanehri caves were mainly used by the buddhist monks and also the traders as this was considered one of the important trade route of the country.

However the most famous cave among these 109 caves is the Chaitya caves. The cave was built around the 4th or 5th century A.D.. A most unique feature of the Chaitya caves is the excellent work of wood that is present at the top of the caves.

The Kanehri caves attracts a large number of tourists every year from all over the country. The Chaitya cave and also the other caves consist innumerable Buddhist statues which are some of the beautiful specimens of Kanehri sculptures.
